{"id":982,"date":"2025-12-19T15:35:57","date_gmt":"2025-12-19T14:35:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alaorilla.com\/the-journey-and-the-roots\/"},"modified":"2025-12-19T15:35:57","modified_gmt":"2025-12-19T14:35:57","slug":"the-journey-and-the-roots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alaorilla.com\/en\/the-journey-and-the-roots\/","title":{"rendered":"The journey and the roots"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">A la Orilla is being born now, but it has been quietly growing for a long time \u2014 probably an entire lifetime.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">If you have read this far, you may have sensed the two great constants of my life: travel (movement) and family (roots).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Travel has taken me down rough, chaotic, cathartic, and magical paths. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Into bottomless depths. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Travel has brought constant motion, endless new beginnings, simplicity, curiosity, and transformation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">So many lessons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">And above all, it has brought people. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">People of every kind, every religion, every belief. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Beings who taught me how to listen, how to empathize, how to understand, how not to judge. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">How to be human. And how to love life in all its forms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">My family, I have always said, is the greatest gift life could have given me. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">My siblings are a treasure \u2014 how lucky I am \u2014 and I am deeply grateful to my parents for conspiring together to bring these incredible beings into the world. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">They are my greatest teachers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">And even though I have always felt this, it has not always been easy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">With my family, I have also learned about pain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">About how lies and secrets lead nowhere, because truth always finds a way to reveal itself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">That justice and injustice do not depend on my own criteria, no matter how much I wish they did.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">That even when someone loves you deeply, they may not love you in the way you expect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">And that selfishness has many forms \u2014 and does not always need to be judged. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">These two constants \u2014 travel and family \u2014 have brought me to where I am today. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">We are all trying to survive. And to do so, we do the best we can. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Almost always at our own expense. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Almost always without allowing our wounds to heal \u2014 and, in doing so, wounding others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Today, I embrace every wound that is still open and every scar that has healed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Today, I hold once again that baby, that child, that teenager, that young woman, and that adult who had to survive and so often chose the path of fear.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">And I also honor my parents\u2019 wish, carrying it forward on my path with: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">intelligence<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\"> kindness<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">and bravery.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A la Orilla is being born now, but it has  [&#8230;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":981,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[23],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-982","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-about-me"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.9 -
